Don’t default to the defensive. If you get a tough question (e.g., What’s your background? or How much do you work in our industry? or How do you set your fees?) simply answer with a question, such as: Why do you ask? or Why is that important at this point? or How is that relevant? Never feel as though you have to pass a test.
