Seek to be respected, not liked. While there are people whom you want to like (and love) you, in most cases we should seek to gain respect and impress people positively. Trying to be liked creates a subordinate position of providing to others, be it positive feedback, acquiescence, or favors.
Mindset: Especially in business, you need the client or customer to respect you and your value, not become your friend.
